2 poemas de Charles Bukowski

A Tragédia das Folhas

.
acordei numa secura e as samambaias, mortas,
nos potes as plantas amarelas igual milho;
minha mulher foi embora
e as garrafas vazias iguais corpos sangrados
ao meu redor sem utilidade;
o sol ainda era bom, apesar disso,
e o bilhete da senhoria ia bem e
num tom amarelado sem demandas;
o que era preciso agora
era um bom comediante, estilo antigo, um bobo
com piadas sobre a dor absurda; a dor é absurda
porque existe, nada mais;
fiz a barba cuidadosamente com
uma velha lâmina,
o homem que já foi jovem e
que diziam ser genial; mas
essa é a tragédia das folhas,
das samambaias mortas,
das plantas mortas;
e eu entrei num corredor escuro
onde a senhoria de pé esperava,
malcriada e terminal,
me mandando pro inferno,
balançando seus braços gordos e suados
e gritando
gritando para receber o aluguel
por que o mundo havia falhado conosco
ambos

The Tragedy of the Leaves

.
I awakened to dryness and the ferns were dead,
the potted plants yellow as corn;
my woman was gone
and the empty bottles like bled corpses
surrounded me with their uselessness;
the sun was still good, though,
and my landlady's note cracked in fine and
undemanding yellowness; what was needed now
was a good comedian, ancient style, a jester
with jokes upon absurd pain; pain is absurd
because it exists, nothing more;
I shaved carefully with an old razor
the man who had once been young and
said to have genius; but
that's the tragedy of the leaves,
the dead ferns, the dead plants;
and I walked into a dark hall
where the landlady stood
execrating and final,
sending me to hell,
waving her fat, sweaty arms
and screaming
screaming for rent
because the world has failed us
both

Quando me penso morto

penso em automóveis parados
num estacionamento

quando me penso morto
penso em frigideiras

quando me penso morto
penso em você transando com alguém
quando não estou por perto

quando me penso morto
é até difícil respirar

quando me penso morto
penso em todas as pessoas a desejarem morrer

quando me penso morto
penso que nunca mais beberei água

quando me penso morto
o ar fica enevoado

as baratas na minha cozinha
tremem

e alguém terá que jogar
minhas cuecas limpas e
sujas
fora

when I think of myself dead

I think of automobiles parked in a
parking lot

when I think of myself dead
I  think of frying pans

when I think of myself dead
I think of somebody making love to you
when I’m not around

when I think of myself dead
I have trouble breathing

when I think of myself dead
I think of all the people wanting to die

when I think of myself dead
I think I won’t be able to drink water anymore

when I think of myself dead
the air goes all white

the roaches in my kitchen
tremble

and somebody will have to throw
my clean and dirty underwear
away
